Canada is the most popular study-abroad destination for Indian students for one straightforward reason — the route from student to permanent resident is the cleanest in the developed world. A 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), strong demand for skilled workers, and a clear Express Entry pathway make it the top choice for students whose long-term plan is to settle abroad. Intellect Globe places students into Canadian colleges and universities every intake, and our SDS visa success rate currently sits at 95%.

Why study in Canada?

Best post-study work rights anywhere

The PGWP gives you up to 3 years of open work permit after graduating — no employer sponsorship needed, work for anyone, anywhere in Canada. STEM students at most universities qualify for the full 3 years.

Clear pathway to Permanent Residency (PR)

Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and the Canadian Experience Class all reward Canadian study + work experience with PR points. Most of our students who plan well receive PR within 2–3 years of graduating.

World-class education at lower cost

Tuition at Canadian public universities and colleges is significantly lower than the US or UK. Top schools like the University of Toronto, UBC, McGill, and Waterloo are globally ranked, and college diplomas from Centennial, Seneca, Humber, and Conestoga lead to strong job outcomes.

Welcoming, multicultural society

Indian students make up the single largest international student group in Canada. Major cities — Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Brampton, Surrey — have established Indian communities, places of worship, and food.

Healthcare and safety

Most provinces offer subsidised provincial healthcare for international students. Crime rates in major Canadian cities are lower than equivalent US/UK cities.

Post-study work and PR pathway in Canada

After graduation, you get a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) of up to 3 years. Working in Canada for at least 12 months on PGWP makes you eligible for Express Entry under the Canadian Experience Class. Most provinces also have PNP streams (Ontario OINP Masters Stream, BC PNP International Graduate, etc.) that fast-track international graduates to PR. Realistic timeline: study (1–2 yrs) → work on PGWP (1–2 yrs) → PR application → PR card, totaling 3–5 years from arrival in Canada.

Canada study abroad FAQs

How can I study in Canada after 12th from India?
After Class 12, you can apply to Canadian colleges and universities for diploma, undergraduate, or pathway programs. You'll need IELTS (typically 6.0–6.5), Class 10 and 12 transcripts, a Statement of Purpose, and proof of funds (around CAD 20,635 GIC + first-year tuition for SDS). Intellect Globe handles your university shortlisting, application, SOP, and SDS visa filing end-to-end. Most students get visa decisions within 20 working days under SDS.
How much bank balance is needed for a Canada student visa?
For SDS, you need a GIC of CAD 20,635 (~₹13 lakhs) deposited with a SDS-approved Canadian bank, plus proof that the first year's tuition is paid. For non-SDS, you need to show CAD 20,635/year in living expenses + tuition for the entire program duration. We help every student structure their financial documentation correctly.
What's the difference between SDS and non-SDS for Canada?
SDS (Student Direct Stream) is faster — typically 20 working days vs 8–12 weeks for non-SDS — and has higher approval rates, but requires upfront GIC + tuition payment and IELTS 6.0+ (or PTE equivalent). Non-SDS is for students who can't meet SDS requirements (e.g. IELTS below 6.0, can't pay tuition upfront). Most of our 2026 students applied via SDS with a 95% approval rate.
Can I work while studying in Canada?
Yes. International students can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks (winter and summer holidays). Most students earn CAD 14–18 per hour, which substantially offsets living costs.
My Canada student visa was refused — can it be reversed?
In most cases, yes. We've reversed 20+ Canada visa refusals since 2024. Step one is requesting GCMS notes — the IRCC officer's actual reasons for refusal. Step two is identifying the gap (usually financial documentation, ties to home country, or a weak SOP). Step three is reapplying with a strengthened file. See our dedicated visa refusal help page.
Which Canadian cities are best for Indian students?
For affordability and large Indian communities: Brampton (Ontario), Surrey (BC), Edmonton (Alberta), Winnipeg (Manitoba). For top universities: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Waterloo. For best PR outcomes, look at Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Atlantic Provinces — these have provincial nomination programs that favour international graduates.
